This event is part of a growing effort to equip local founders with the tools, connections, and confidence to build businesses that last—starting right where they are.
What is Build What Works?
Build What Works is a free, one-hour lunch and learn designed for people who have a business idea and want help turning it into something real. Whether you’re just starting to explore entrepreneurship or already working on a concept, this session offers practical tools and a clear next step. The event is co-hosted by Sprocket and the Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation (GOEDC) as part of a regional effort to bring more hands-on startup support to communities across Western Kentucky.
Who is this event for?
This session is ideal for people who have an idea for a business but don’t know how to move forward, individuals who’ve started something but need help shaping it into something that works, and anyone interested in exploring entrepreneurship in a supportive, no-pressure environment. You don’t need a business plan or a pitch deck—just curiosity and a willingness to learn.
What will Owensboro entrepreneurs learn?
Attendees will get an introduction to the Market Fit Lab framework—a proven system for identifying customer needs, testing early ideas, and building businesses that last. The session will be led by John Truitt, Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Sprocket and a seasoned startup advisor. This is not a lecture—it’s a focused, actionable session built for people who want to get unstuck and start building with intention.
When and where is it happening?
Date: Wednesday, July 16
Time: 12:00–1:00 PM
Location: Old National Bank Building, 123 W Fourth Street, Third Floor Conference Room (enter through the doors on Fourth Street)

What happens after the event?
Attendees will have the opportunity to apply for the Owensboro Market Fit Lab cohort, a hands-on program that kicks off with a virtual workshop and helps participants move from idea to validation in just a few weeks. This event is a great starting point for anyone who wants to explore building a business with structure, feedback, and local support.
