August 04, 2025

Learn directly from Myron in his new workshop on Intellectual Property—now available in the SprocketWKY course hub.

We’re excited to introduce a new mentor in our network: Myron Adams, founder of Caviar Creative Co., and a strategic mind when it comes to protecting ideas and turning innovation into business leverage.

Myron brings deep experience from his time as Licensing and New Ventures Manager at Kentucky Commercialization Ventures—supporting entrepreneurs and institutions across the state, including right here in Western Kentucky. He’s now sharing his insights in a brand-new SprocketWKY workshop focused on Intellectual Property—a practical, founder-friendly guide to understanding what IP is, what’s actually protectable, and how to use it to your advantage.

Get to know Myron through our Q&A below—and if you’re building something new (even if it’s messy and early-stage), this is a workshop you don’t want to miss.

Why Myron Adams Mentors Entrepreneurs in Western Kentucky

I worked as a Licensing and New Ventures Manager at Kentucky Commercialization Ventures in my previous role, where our team supported multiple institutions across the state, including Western Kentucky universities, such as Murray State University. Over time, I was fortunate enough to be pulled into conversations with public innovators, and these were folks working on creative solutions in agriculture, education, health care, and other applied spaces. Although these startups were at various stages of growth, each startup I engaged with seemed to solve real problems in inventive ways. I really came to appreciate the resourcefulness and grit of founders in this region, and mentoring is a way for me to stay connected to that kind of energy while helping people navigate the early, messy stages of building something new.

The Surprising Truth About Intellectual Property That Most Founders Don’t Know

I tell them they are often much closer to innovation and to protectable intellectual property than they think. There’s a common misconception that the generation of intellectual property only applies to deep tech or laboratory breakthroughs, but the truth is, many businesses are quietly building novel processes, systems, or products as they grow. Sometimes it’s a method no one else is using, a unique product configuration, or a clever twist on an old concept. In any case, once they recognize that what they’ve created may actually be protectable, it changes how they think about their work and how they talk to investors, partners, and even customers.

If You Sat Down for Coffee with Myron, Here’s What He’d Want You to Ask

I would love for them to ask how to think about protecting their ideas in a way that actually supports their business. A lot of founders don’t realize that what they’ve built might already contain something protectable. For instance, with a patent, I would want to help them figure out whether there’s something novel there, whether it’s worth protecting, and how the patent could support their broader business goals.

Intellectual Property Isn’t Just About Ownership—It’s About Leverage

That intellectual property is not just about ownership it is about leverage. Strong intellectual property assets can open doors to funding, give you room to negotiate, and help you carve out space in a competitive market. But to get there, you have to treat it like part of your business model, not something you scramble to address later. I wish more founders saw intellectual property as a proactive asset and a way to define and strengthen what makes them different.

How Blitz Chess Helps Myron Stay Sharp

I play a lot of blitz chess, which are fast-paced games where each side only has a few minutes to make all their moves. The games keep me sharp and are more about spotting patterns quickly than anything else. I’m not exactly training for becoming a grandmaster anytime soon, but it does give me break from screens while passively working on focus and strategy. I end up playing more often than I’d probably admit.

You can access Myron’s workshop—“Intellectual Property 101”—right now in the SprocketWKY course hub. If you’re navigating the early stages of startup growth, it’s a must-watch.
